Imagine living 37 years of your life in a place you call home and someone coming to threaten you of taking away it all and demolishing it.
Your home will be gone in minutes right in front of your eyes. So when the same was going to happen to this old man, he decided to do something and save his home.
Huang Yung-Fu is a 96 years old man who has spent the last 37 years of his life in Nantun District, Taichung. The village was home to almost 1200 families.
Huang Yung-Fu and most of the resident families in the village were retired army officials who were allotted homes in the village. The house was for temporary housing and so most of the families moved out with just 7 homes left behind.
Most of the houses were sold to builders and contractors leaving them empty. Keeping the same in concern, the government decided to demolish the village but Huang Yung-fu could not let that happen.
Living almost alone in the village he did not have much to do. So he decided to paint. He first painted a bird inside his house.
Then he continued and painted his entire house to the outside walls and street too. His home gained a lot of attention and he had started being addressed as the “Rainbow man” of the “Rainbow Village” as he painted the entire village.
The government saw a lot of tourism coming into the district and thus changed their plans to demolish the village.
Huang Yung-Fu said that he loved painting and wanted to do something to make things better for him. He was alone and wanted to save his village so he painted the entire village and it turned out for the best.
The man who is already 96 says that he will keep painting even if he turns 100 because he loves doing it and it saved his village.
