A man from Yonkers, New York, took off his clothes and jumped into frigid waters to save two dogs.
Timofey Yuriev, who was walking with his dog near the Irvington Reservoir, saw two golden retrievers running away from their owner while she tried to stop them.
The golden retrievers fell into the ice-covered lake.
“When I saw the first dog, I just got undressed and went inside (the reservoir) immediately,” Yuriev told The Journal News.
“It was pretty dangerous. They got stuck. They tried to come out and after a while, they just stopped moving. I saw they were in trouble”
Yuriev took off his clothes and jumped into the lake with his own dog.
The owner of the dog filmed the incident which shows how he rescued the dogs with the help of his own dog.
The owner can be heard saying in the video, “I’m the luckiest person in the world!”
“She was crying. She was so thankful” Yuriev said of the owner of the dogs.
“I looked at the ice and I understood that either I can climb on the ice, but it’s probably not going to support my weight, so I had to go in and just try to break it.”
“Because I’m a freediver, and I was exposed to the cold water before when I lived in Siberia in Russia, then I knew that I could probably even swim under the ice and just grab the dog and bring it back. Not a big deal. So I just started working my way through.”
