A man has confronted a ‘lazy’ beggar who refused to work for money after the homeless man turned down his generous job offer.
Florida-based Ryan Bray was waiting at a crossroad in Bradenton when he was approached by a homeless man who asked him for money.
Rather than handing over his cash, Bray generously offered the man to do some yard work for him and earn $15 per hour.
Despite the generous offer of the owner of a remodeling business, the beggar reacted aggressively and kicked Ryan’s car when he drove away.
“He reached his arms inside my vehicle, resting them and said, ‘Hey, do you have any money?’ I said, ‘No, but I have one better for you…’” Mr. Bray recalled in an interview with FOX13.
“He said, ‘Absolutely not.’ Started getting belligerent and cursing.”
Upset by the way the beggar reacted to his kind offer, the business owner returned to the same spot the next day with a sign of his own.
“I offered him $15 an hour to do yard work for me and he refused. If we as a community stop paying them, they will leave our neighborhood,” the sign read.
As Ryan went on to explain, he decided to pursue this action because he “can’t have my 13-year-old daughter and my wife driving with their windows up and being berated the entire time if they don’t get money.”
Defending his position, the beggar spoke out to the WBNS interviewers and said:
“He didn’t offer me nothing, buddy. I never had no trouble until this dude shows up. Just because he’s got money don’t mean us homeless people we don’t have rights.
“He’s a rich preppy ass piece of s*** who thinks I’m supposed to take his s*** because he’s got some money and he lives down here. I don’t care what you got, brother.”
Following the incident, Adell Erozer, the director of Turning Points, a Florida homeless charity, urged people not to give cash to the homeless.
“It’s hard to tell the difference between someone who is really homeless and somebody who is out there just panhandling,” she said.
“The best thing to do if we all really want to get rid of panhandlers is to not give to panhandlers.”
