Many superheroes are not confined to movies and comic books.

In fact, they can be everywhere, working hard to make our world a better place.

One of the famous superheroes is Batman. Most people think that he is only about gadgets, money, advanced technology, and defeating badass men.

The truth is that Batman is also an animal lover. He has a big heart for dogs!

27-year-old Chris Van Dorn, also known as Batman, saves shelter animals from euthanasia.

Speaking to The Dodo, he said: “It kind of just came as a way to embody all the good I wanted to do in the world, and make it easy for people to talk to me right off the bat.”

It was in 2018 when he started visiting animal shelters in Batman costume. ‘Batman4Paws’ has saved dogs from all over the country and sent them to their forever homes.

“I would say I’m just the middleman,” the humble hero said. “The real heroes are the people giving these dogs a good, loving home.”

He added: “My catchphrase is, ‘It’s not who I am underneath but what I do that defines me’ and I still hold that true today.”

Van Dorn hopes his Batman persona will also encourage others to wear their own capes and open their homes to dogs and other animals in need.

“I dress up as Batman and take pictures with shelter dogs that are high up on the kill list to get them more attention,” he said. “The idea is that these dogs are more likely to get seen and adopted if Batman is in the photo.”

Van Dorn is usually accompanied by his partner, Mr. Boots, who wears a Robin costume. Mr. Boots is the one who inspired him to become a superhero.
