Man Forced To Undergo Surgery After Eating McDonald’s Fries Contaminated With Glass


A man was forced to undergo emergency surgery after consuming McDonald’s fries that were contaminated by glass shards.

As the court heard, Christopher Peni from Elsternwick, Melbourne, rushed to the hospital on January 31 after experiencing sharp pain upon feasting on fries he bought at the Nepean Highway McDonald’s.

According to the reports, Mr. Peni spat out a big chunk of broken glass, along with some blood, soon after taking his first bites.

Since the glass shard measured some 0.2” by 1”, Peni paid a visit to the ER of a local hospital where the staff kept him for observation for two days before discharging him.

As the man returned home, he began experiencing severe abdominal pain and vomiting that led him to collapse.

After ending up back in the hospital, a scan revealed that a 0.2” tubular glass shard was stuck in his stomach.

Following days in the hospital, the doctors were forced to undergo emergency surgery and open up the man in order to save his life.

After the ordeal, the company responsible for managing the McDonald’s branch pleaded guilty to selling unsafe food and faced a maximum fine of $200,000.

As Kellyco Group argued, their branch had a stainless record for years prior to this incident and was very remorseful about the incident.

Accepting the company’s show of good character was Magistrate Therese McCarthy who ordered the group to pay $40,000 without recording any conviction against them.

According to the staff and the inspector’s findings, glass shards ended up in the victim’s fries after a heat lamp broke over the fries warmer.
