A man killed his parents, sister, and grandma to stop them from finding out that he was living a double life.
24-year-old Menhaz Zaman from Canada killed his father Moniruz Zaman, 59, mother Momotaz Begum 50, sister Malesa Zaman, 21, and grandmother Firoza Begum, 70, one day before he was supposed to graduate from York University with an engineering degree.
But according to The Star, Menhaz had already dropped out because of his failing grades and he was only spending his days playing video games, walking around a local shopping mall, and visiting the gym.
A court heard that after killing his entire family, he texted his friends and said that he had been ‘planning this for three years.’
His friends immediately called the police who discovered the bodies of the victims at their home.
Menhaz pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of his mother and first-degree murders of his father, sister, and grandmother.
He said that he murdered his mother at around 3 pm and then his grandmother after an hour by cutting their throats.
Menhaz then ‘sat around playing video games and napping’ while waiting for his father and sister to return home.
Crow attorney Kevin Stewart said: “These were horrible, monstrous, brutal killings. They took place in the family home.
“To have them killed, and to have their own flesh and blood responsible for these killings is beyond comprehension.”
Menhaz addressed the court and said: “I’m not sure who this going to reach, but I would like to just apologize to anyone I have impacted negatively with my actions and especially to the people who knew my family, and friends and loved ones who I know could never see something like this from me happening.
“I’m sorry.”
