A man has gone on a desperate hunt for his missing lottery ticket after realizing that the numbers he always played have won the grand prize.
Jeff Heinig from Michigan had been playing Lucky For Life for years using the same numbers. While the luck was never on his side before, his lucky numbers were chosen in a recent drawing.
Despite knowing that he had won, however, Jeff couldn’t help but feel desperate when he couldn’t find his winning ticket.
“I was back on the website Friday, and the Lucky for Life numbers caught my eye,” the man explained.
“They were the numbers I always play, and that’s when it hit me that I had checked my ticket before the drawing had happened.”
Knowing that finding the ticket will provide him with $25,000 per year for the rest of his life, Jeff went on a frantic search for the paper treasure.
“I searched high and low for the ticket, but couldn’t find it anywhere until I went rifling through the trash,” he admitted during a conference.
Fortunately, Jeff wasn’t shy to get his hands dirty and inspect the trashes carefully during his search for the ticket. After finding it undamaged, he realized that he really did win the grand prize and quickly informed his family about the good news.
“We’ve had a rough start to the year,” Jeff’s wife, Wendy Heinig, said in an interview with Inside Edition.
“Earlier this year, Jeff had a massive heart attack and actually died three times before they saved his life.
“We’re all so fortunate to still have him with us, and winning this prize means we can enjoy doing some fun things together that we couldn’t have afforded before.”
