A man was caught on video urinating on the Dairy Queen countertop and floor after employees asked him to wear a mask.
Video of the incident was shared on Facebook after being captured by another customer. The clip shows an unidentified man inside the Dairy Queen in Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, Canada on Saturday after 9 PM, arguing with employees about masks.
In the moments leading up to the incident, the employees are seen asking the man to wear a mask, pointing out that they are not allowed to serve anyone who doesn’t wear a face mask.
The man says to an employee: “you don’t have a brain.”
One of the employees can be heard telling the man that “we ask you to follow the rules,” explaining that masks are required for everyone above the age of 12 while indoors.
The employee explains it’s the mandate of the province of British Columbia that anyone indoors over the age of 12 must wear a mask.
Exemptions are made for people with medical conditions including people who can’t remove their mask and people who need to remove it to communicate due to another person’s hearing impairment.
The enraged man said: “What are the rules? It’s not a BC policy. BC policy says you have to observe exemptions.”
The staff member then said: “Sorry, I don’t want to argue with you, we have customers standing behind you, we want to serve them.”
The staff asks the man to leave but instead, he unzips his pants and as staff scream, he proceeds to urinate at the counter.
“Stop! He’s doing it!” says one of the Dairy Queen staff.
“[Redacted] psychopaths,” the man yelled before walking out of the store.
Graham Hughes, one of the customers in the restaurant caught the incident on camera and has since shared it with CTV News.
“You know, we keep talking about “when we get back to normal”, but we never had to give up being decent to each other,” Hughes told CTV News. “So I’m curious about how that’s happening.”
“The amount of disrespect that’s taking place – we never had to give up respect,” he added. “We never had to give that up with the mask mandates, or the vaccine mandates.”
Sgt. Chris Manseau from Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that “this is the first incident of this nature.”
“I think people should just wear their masks and be safe and be polite,” Manseau said.
Canadian police released a photo of the man leaving the eatery, but no arrests have been made. Police are also asking anyone else with a video of the event to share it with them.
Port Alberni is a city on Vancouver Island with a population of about 18,000 people.
According to data from The New York Times, COVID-19 cases in British Columbia are increasing as the province averages 683 new cases per day.
As cases rise, some COVID-19 safety measures remain in place, including masks and some restrictions on organized gatherings. British Columbia mandate said masks must be worn in all indoor public spaces throughout the state.
