Mariah Carey hit album ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ has completed its 25 years.
The 49-year-old singer gave her final performance as she wrapped up her Christmas tour 2019 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
She has played concerts in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Uncasville, Connecticut, Boston, Massachusetts, before the grand finale at Madison Square Garden.
Her album “All I Want for Christmas is You” hit the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 list. It’s the first time ever that the song has earned the top spot. The song is also the first holiday-themed hit to top the Hot 100 chart since “The Chipmunk Song” in 1958.
Amazon Music posted a short video in which Mariah talked about why she has a special connection to Christmas.
‘I have such an emotional connection to Christmas,’ she explained. ‘And it wasn’t about the gifts.’
‘It was just about the hopefulness of the holiday season and just feeling, like, in the spirit, and the need for me to express myself and make a song that made me feel happy at the holidays,’ she said.
She revealed while writing All I Want For Christmas Is You, she watched the classic film It’s A Wonderful Life at her home in upstate New York and that gave her the inspiration.
‘It’s grown in popularity over the years, and that’s the thing that’s amazing to me about this song,’ she added.
After the concert, Mariah went to a late dinner at New York’s Tao Downtown with her children and backup dancer and boyfriend Bryan Tanaka, 36.
She opted for a low-cut shimmery red dress she wore for the last part of her Christmas concert and teamed it up with a white ostrich feather wrap. While her boyfriend wore a blue puffer coat with jeans and sneakers.
