Actor Mark Ruffalo, 54, recently tweeted his own opinion to Kyle Rittenhouse’s non-guilty verdict and people had mixed reactions about it.
Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty last Friday despite fatally shooting Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber as well as wounding Gaige Grosskreutz with an AR-15-style rifle during a mass protest in Kenosha last year.
After the trial, Rittenhouse’s non-guilty verdict sparked riots in New York, Portland Oregon, and Chicago, with several prominent public figures voicing out their opinions following the case, including US President Joe Biden.
“I stand by what the jury has concluded,” President Biden has said. “The jury system works, and we have to abide by it.”
Just recently, actor Mark Ruffalo also took to Twitter to share his opinions about the court ruling.
“We come together to mourn the lives lost by the same racist system that devalues the lives of blacks and devalues the lives of Anthony and Jojo #ReimagineKenosha,” Ruffalo tweeted.
“After all we have seen and heard about these weapons of war, these killing machines, there is no doubt that people who faced this young man were more afraid of him than he was of them,” the actor posted on a follow-up tweet. “He was the one with a weapon of war, loaded and ready to be used on people.”
While some people agreed with his stance on the matter, Ruffalo’s tweet divided the internet because he mentioned Rosenbaum and Huber in his post.
Rosenbaum was charged with abusing five preteen boys in 2002 and was indicted on 11 charges of child molestation. He eventually pleaded guilty to two more counts of misconduct with a minor.
Huber on the other hand has reportedly pulled a knife on his brother and grandmother, Rittenhouse’s lawyer revealed. He spent a little over four months in prison and was released on probation, Insider reported.
People weren’t happy that Ruffalo used affection to refer to Huber and Rosenbaum with some calling out the actor for supporting convicted people.
“Hey Mark Ruffalo,” user @ikeijeh said. “By aligning me with a convicted pedophile and a repeat domestic abuser simply because of the color of my skin, your tweet devalues my life far more than your imaginary system does.”
“Mark Ruffalo is either monumentally stupid or a pedophilia fan?!” @Oilfield_Rando tweeted.
Ruffalo is yet to respond to the backlash.
