A young married couple have filed for an annulment after they both came out as gay at the same time just one year after they tied the knot.
It was August 2018 when Jo Turner and Scott Turner-Smith, a candidate for the Conservative party, got married to each other.
Now, just a year later, the lovers revealed that they are gay and that they are excited about going on double dates, a discovery that will greatly ease their annulment process.
“I’ve composed and deleted this tweet a thousand times, but here goes: I’m gay. Those I’ve told so far have been wonderful, and for that I’m more grateful than they know. It feels freeing to be able to be my whole self and I’m excited to find out what’s next,” Manchester-based Scott tweeted in late August.
Just a day later, his wife Jo also spoke out and confirmed that they were both gay and waiting for their marriage to be annulled.
“We have had a hoot when signing the nullity petition today – ‘invalid consent by mistake – turns out we’re both gay.’ Enjoy that, Judge. The screenplay will be out next year,” Jo posted on social media.
“Wendy and I are dying to go on a double date with Scott +1. Double wedding would be amazing!” she later on added.
After the couple’s story went viral, people praised them for having the courage to be honest with each other and come out as gay publicly.
“Thank you for sharing this. Has absolutely made my day. Very happy for both of you!” one person wrote.
“What an eventful month. Glad you’re both living happily and honest to yourselves,” another one suggested.
