A mass shooting has rocked the State of Wisconsin after a gunman entered a casino and opened fire in a targeted attack.
The deadly shooting took place in a Green Bay suburb where a gunman walked into the Duck Creek Restaurant located on the Oneida Casino grounds before shooting several people at around 7.30 on Sunday morning.
According to the early police reports, the shooter was after one of the restaurant’s employees with whom he allegedly had a personal relationship.
After it turned out the person was not in the restaurant at the time, the gunman opened fire and fatally shot two people while injuring seven.
“He was targeting a specific victim who was not there, but he decided to still shoot some of the victim’s friends or co-workers, it appears,” Lt Kevin Pawlak of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office revealed.
As Sheriff Pawlak added, the authorities are still working on determining whether the shooter was also an employee of the restaurant or the casino or not.
After the shooting, dozens of police officers surrounded the scene before storming the building.
“All of a sudden we hear a massive flurry of gunshots – 20 to 30 gunshots for sure,” Max Westphal, who was among the group of people evacuated from the area, recalled in an interview with WBAY-TV.
“We took off running towards the highway. There had to have been 50 cop cars that came by on the highway. It was honestly insane.”
While the officers managed to arrest the suspect, two people were pronounced dead and one critically injured victim had to be rushed to the hospital.
Though the authorities have already confirmed that the threat is no longer active, the police have yet to identify the shooter and his victims.
