A Spanish matador was slammed after a video of him wiping away blood from a bull’s face before killing it went viral.
39-year-old Morante de la Puebla, who was taking part in a bullfighting festival at the Real Maestranza bullring in the city of Seville in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia, can be seen wiping away blood from a bull’s face with a handkerchief before killing it in the viral video.
The disgusting video was shared on Twitter and has been viewed more than 2.3million times.
The matador is being criticized by everyone. Silvia Barquero Nogales, leader of Spain’s Animalist Party Against Mistreatment of Animals (PACMA) political party, said:
‘Only a malicious and perverse mind could torture an animal until the blood pours down its legs and then wipe its face with a tissue.’
‘The matador is just disguising for his lack of empathy. Abolish bullfighting now!’
One person wrote online: ‘So sickening that this cruelty goes on! Says a lot about those who like to watch it, and facilitated it to happen. The poor innocent bull’s! They are sentient beings. I just do not understand this cruelty of mankind.’
Another said: ‘How does this person explain this to himself?? How does he justify it?’
The third one wrote: ‘Evil for Sport. No excuse for this abuse and cruelty’
Meanwhile, bullfighting fans showed their support and said that wiping away the blood means he was showing respect to the animal.
