Boxer Maxim Dadashev, 28, Passed Away From Head Injuries Sustained In Fight


Boxer Maxim Dadashev has passed away after sustaining severe head injuries during his fight against Subriel Matias, TASS has reported.

The light-welterweight boxer was beaten in the 11th round after trainer Buddy McGirt stopped the attack.

The fighter struggled to get off the ring and reportedly puked before becoming unconscious.

Dadashev underwent major brain surgery after the fight. He had the right side of his skull removed to alleviate the swelling after sustaining a subdural hematoma, The Sun reported.

He was then placed in a medically induced coma but passed away from the extent of his injuries.

The 28-year-old Saint Petersburg-born fighter left behind his wife and their young son.

Kalle & Nisse Sauerland wrote on Twitter: “We are devastated to hear about the tragic passing of Maxim Dadashev. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

World Boxing Council also tweeted: “RIP Maxim Dadashev.

“He passed away from injuries suffered during Friday’s fight, according to trainer Buddy McGirt and Donatas Janusevicius, Dadashev’s strength and conditioning coach.
