A mayor in Mexico has been tied to a truck and dragged along the streets by furious villagers for failing to repair roads.
The mayor of Las Margaritas in Chiapas, Jorge Luis Escandon Hernandez, was forcibly taken by residents from his office.
According to El Heraldo de Mexico, the angry villagers were compelled to carry out the attack and demanded he fulfill his promises.
They forcibly removed Mr. Escandon from the mayor’s office, tied him to a truck and dragged him along the streets.
A video shows the angry residents armed with sticks as they took him out of the office while another shows the mayor attached to the back of a pickup truck with a rope. He was dragged around the city until about 40 cops stopped the attack.
20 people got injured and at least 30 villagers were detained.
Mr. Escandon sustained minor injuries and gave a speech 8 hours after the incident. He said that he wouldn’t be intimidated and would press charges for abduction and attempted murder.
The residents decided to attack him over unfulfilled campaign promises.
In another incident that occurred four months ago, a mob of locals trashed the Mayor’s office when they didn’t see him there.
One internet user commented: “I understand the urge to do something like that, but they should just limit themselves to protesting and heckling at all his public appearances.”
Another wrote: “The mayor warned that he would press charges…he also warned that those potholes will be repaired in record time.”
A third said: “Those voters don’t mess around.”
