A 73-year-old five-time mayor has surprised his local community after marrying a foreign woman who is four decades younger than him after meeting her on the internet.
Widower Kit Owen, a five-time mayor of March, Cambridgeshire, didn’t expose his wife’s real age but admitted that she is in her thirties.
“After getting on so well over FaceTime and Whatsapp, it seemed it was time for me to go and meet her in person,” Kit said.
After a year of online dating, the former mayor traveled to the Philippines to meet Aiza Bonus and spent valuable time with her friends and family.
While the 73-year-old can’t remember how exactly he proposed to Aiza, he said that they are both very happy and ready to share their lives with each other.
After securing Aiza’s fiancé visa, the woman traveled to the UK and married Owen at a register office in his hometown.
“Congratulations again Ms. Aiza Bonus from Tarfac and Kit Owen from the UK for getting the approval of your fiance visa,” Visa Online Assistance wrote upon the approval of Aiza’s entry visa.
Before proceeding to the Ye Olde Griffin Hotel reception, the couple was seen taking photographs with their family and friends. “Behave,” the five-time mayor told his new wife before kissing her on the lips.
According to the reports, only 10 people were invited to the couple’s wedding ceremony and reception.
“We had a meal and there was some drinking but no dancing or anything like that!” Kit revealed.
Kit Owen, who has two children with his late wife, will become the mayor for the 6th time if he wins the March Town Council election in May this year.
Speaking of his sudden decision, Mr. Owen said: “We have known each other for a very long time and this [marriage] seemed like the best, logical next step for us both.”
