McDonald’s is closing all its restaurants in the U.
K. in a bid to fight coronavirus outbreak in the country. Only the drive-thru and takeaway services will be active.
As per the fast food giant, customers can only access their takeaway meals from Wednesday, 5 a.m. to stop spreading the killer virus, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 70 people in Britain.
The eateries in the Republic of Ireland will also follow suit. The dining areas of 1,300 U.K. sites were shut down forcing the customers to use car access who were desperate for a Big Mac.
The U.K. CEO of McDonald’s Paul Pomroy said that McDonald’s restaurants will be open until it is safe for doing so.
He announced that it has become become very clear that McDonald’s needs to temporarily change its operations to make sure the wellbeing of its customers and employees consistent with the guidance by the government on social distancing.
He added, all restaurants would shut seating areas and move to being drive-thru, takeaway, and McDelivery only for the time being.
The toilets, as well as handwashing facilities, will, however, remain open whenever possible. McDonald’s vowed that all McDelivery orders via Just Eat and Uber Eats, and drive-thrus were being guaranteed as being contact-free.
The wellbeing of suppliers, employees, and customers remains of the biggest importance for the food chain and these changes are made keeping in mind their safety.
The firm will also offer health and emergency services people free drinks. Mr. Paul said that McDonald’s will do everything it can to serve those working tirelessly to keep everyone safe.
