Even though the internet is full of news that just increase your stress level, there are still a few stories that make you believe that restore your faith in humanity.
Such is the story of this 5th grade, 12 years old Ella Casano who invented something so unique that can help millions of babies and their parents.
Ella Casano was unfortunately diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura.point 338 |
In this disease, the platelets of the patient keep on decreasing day by day and it reaches to an alarming level that the patient has to stop any sort of physical activity.point 140 | When Ella was diagnosed with ITP, her platelet counts were just 20,000.point 200 | (On average, a normal human being has platelets around 50,000 – 150,000).point 268 |
Because of her poor condition, she had to spend most of her days in hospitals and her IV infusions once in a month became an essential part of her life.point 125 | 1
When Ella was in her 5th grade, she had to participate in the “Invention Convention” competition where students were to submit their unique/cool ideas.point 387 |
The purpose of the competition was to boost the creativity among the young students but no one thought that a student would come up with an idea that could change lives of hundreds of kids.point 155 | 1
During this competition, Ella presented her idea of ‘Medi Teddy’ which is a stuffed teddy bear is designed in a way to hide the IV pouch from the kids but still allows the nurses to monitor the fluid levels from its back.
While giving an interview to a local news magazine, Ella told, “Especially at my first few treatments, I just noticed that the big bag of medicine was kind of intimidating, so we just wanted to make something to hide it.”
After making the initial prototype of her Medi Teddy idea, she started to give it a final tough and started receiving positive feedbacks from different investors who started to show interest in this product.
It’s already been 2 years that she came up with the idea and now she has successfully submitted the patents for Medi Teddy as well as started the 501(c)(3) application and have decided to make her business non-profit.
