Meghan Markle Files Formal Complaint Over Piers Morgan’s Controversial Comments About Her Mental Health

Meghan Markle has filed a formal complaint to ITV following Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan’s remarks about her mental health.

The TV host reportedly left the breakfast show following a heated argument with his colleague Alex Beresford about the Duchess of Sussex.

“Meghan’s complaint to ITV concerned the impact Morgan’s comments could have on others and how it could degrade the seriousness of mental health issues. The complaint did not relate to the personal nature of Morgan’s attacks,” CNN reported.

During the bombshell interview with Oprah, Meghan said that she had suicidal thoughts and “just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”

Morgan questioned the Duchess of Sussex’s statements about her mental health during her stay in the Palace.

“I don’t believe a word she says, Meghan Markle,” Piers said on the show. “I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report and that fact that she fired up this onslaught against our royal family, I think is contemptible.”

Morgan reportedly stormed off GMB set after co-host Beresford condemned his remarks.

“I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to,” Beresford said, adding: “Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.”

Morgan then said: “Okay, I’m done with this, sorry, no, sorry … see you later, sorry, can’t do this.”

His departure from the morning show was announced later that day.

ITV said in a statement: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

“ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

After Morgan’s decision to quit, ITV has seen almost £200m loss in its market value.

Speaking outside his home in London, Morgan said, as per BBC: “I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in the right to be allowed to have an opinion. If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that’s entirely their right.

“I don’t believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she’s done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible.

“If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it.”
