Meghan Markle’s old friend previously claimed the Duchess was “always fascinated” by the royal family and wanted to become the next Princess Diana.
Following Meghan and Harry’s bombshell CBS interview, people have been questioning how much of what was said is the truth, whereas old interviews and conversations have since surfaced.
In their explosive interview, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex went on to accuse a member of the royal family of racism while insisting Meghan was left suicidal after feeling trapped by ‘The Institution’.
The 39-year-old actress, who now lives together with Harry and their son, Archie, in Los Angeles, also claimed she wasn’t prepared for life as a royal as she insisted that she was naïve when she tied the knot with Harry.
She also said she didn’t research the royal family and “never looked up her husband online.
”As the Duchess claimed, she didn’t know how new life would look like after moving in with the royal family, whereas she was shocked when she learned she had to curtsy to Her Majesty when they met.
Following Meghan’s claims, however, old interviews suggesting otherwise have surfaced.
Back in 2018, Meghan’s longtime childhood friend, Ninaki Priddy, spoke out and claimed that the Duchess “was always fascinated by the royal family.” She also insisted that Meghan wanted to become “Princess Diana 2.0.”
“I know the royal family was something she found fascinating,” Priddy, who was no longer close to Meghan by the time she met Harry, said back in 2018.
“She had one of Princess Diana’s books [Diana: Her True Story] on her bookshelf, and even when she was with Trevor she told me she wanted to go and stay in London for at least a month.
“I can’t remember exactly when this was, but she was married to Trevor and starring in Suits. She mentioned about wanting to go to London a couple of times.
“I wasn’t shocked or even surprised to hear about Prince Harry. I know she used to love The Princess Diaries — films about a commoner who becomes part of a Royal Family. She was very taken with that idea.”
Questioning Meghan’s claims about being naïve and unprepared was also royal author Robert Jobson who suggested the Duchess was being “disingenuous” from the beginning.
“Meghan has been disingenuous from the start, when she claimed she had no idea who Prince Harry was. Seriously?” Jobson told MailOnline.
“She gushed about the royals during her engagement interview and was even given a trial run carrying out royal engagements before the hugely expensive wedding, which come three days after her first private wedding.”
