The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could soon be ditched from their Royal family as Prince Charles makes a move to save money.
According to Angela Levin, a Royal biographer, the Prince of Wales is determined to streamline the Monarchy in order to cut down on expenses and save taxpayers’ money.
Following Prince Philip’s death, Prince Charles and Prince William reportedly sat together to discuss the monarchy’s future and initiate talks about members of the family who will make the cut to be recognized as senior royals in the future.
As Levin expressed, she believes that Harry and Meghan’s Megxit and explosive interview with Oprah could see the couple get “ditched from being members of the Royal family.”
While the smaller-sized Royal Family could see just a handful of royals – including Charles, William, Camilla, Kate, George, Louis, and Charlotte – be considered as working royals, other royals might lose their titles and patronages and may be forced to support themselves through regular work.
Though Meghan and Harry already gave up titles His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness, the Queen allowed them to keep titles Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“Prince Charles has wanted for a very long time to cut the monarchy down to save costs and to make people be worth the money that they got from the taxpayer,” Levin said during her appearance on talkRADIO.
“I imagine that might be when Harry and Meghan are ditched from being members of the Royal family.”
She added: “I think the outer edge, which the Queen has wanted to keep together for a very long time for sentimental reasons, which at her age she didn’t really particularly want change which I think is understandable. But he wants to change and I think he will do that.”
