Meghan Markle’s former co-star lashed out at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as he branded their interview with Oprah as offensive and insensitive.
In an interview with LBC radio station, 57-year-old Wendell Pierce, who appeared alongside Meghan in Suits, suggested the royal couple’s allegations were insignificant during the time so many people are dying from the pandemic.
“Today 3,000 people are going to die in America from COVID. A couple of hundred people are going to die, even this hour, in the UK,” the actor insisted in an apparent jab at Meghan and Harry.
He added: “It was quite insensitive and offensive that we are all complicit in this sort of palace … gossip in the midst of so much death. I think it is insignificant.”
When asked about whom his criticism was aimed at, Mr. Pierce responded by naming Harry and Meghan as well as Oprah, CBS, the Palace, and ITV.
In another interview with LMB, the 57-year-old also took aim at the monarchy as he insisted the Palace should “focus on the throes of death that we’re in” rather than the gossip.
Pierce’s interviews come as Buckingham Palace released a heartfelt statement on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen.
“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” the statement read.
“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
