A freshly resurfaced video showing Meghan Markle being pampered by the Queen has been making rounds on the internet.
Following Meghan and Harry’s shocking CBS interview in which they accused the Royal Family of racism and claimed the Royals didn’t do enough to help Meghan through her mental health struggles, people have been left divided with some taking the monarchy’s side and others defending the couple for breaking free of the ‘Institution’.
Meanwhile, 56-year-old Eileen Owens from Chester, UK, surprised the world with her video showing the interaction between Meghan and the Queen shortly after their first joint engagement back in 2018.
As Owens, who was at the time of the event watching the interaction from a nearby pub together with her husband, revealed, she didn’t recognize “the significance of that moment” until Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah.
In the screenshots of the video, the Queen and the Duchess of Sussex are seen entering a limo after exiting a building. Once settled inside the vehicle, Her Majesty covered her knees with a blanket before kindly pointing the blanket to Meghan and offering to share it.
“At the time it just seemed like a sweet gesture – it seemed like they were quite close,” Owens said of the interaction between Meghan and the Queen.
“The two seemed to be chatting and getting on quite well and the Queen really seemed to like Meghan.
“It wasn’t just the Queen that liked her either. Everyone watching seemed to adore Meghan – people watching were screaming her name.”
As Meghan admitted in the interview with Oprah, the Queen has always been very nice to her. She also recalled the moment seen in the photos above by saying the Queen was worried she would feel cold when they were together in a limo after their joint engagement.
“We were in the car going between engagements, and she has a blanket that sits across her knees for warmth. And it was chilly, and she was like, ‘Meghan, come on,’ and put it over my knees, as well,” the 39-year-old actress told Oprah. “It made me think of my grandmother where she’s always been warm and inviting and really welcoming.”
Speaking of the heartwarming interaction, Owens added:
“I couldn’t believe it when I heard Meghan telling that story, because I knew exactly what she was referring to. I just thought ‘wow’ when I found the video on my phone. At the time we were watching, it didn’t seem too important – but it obviously was for her.
“For that moment to spring to Meghan’s mind, and for her to recall it on TV three years later shows it meant a lot to her.”
