Meghan Markle has divided opinion after she introduced herself with a royal title when she appeared in a video to read aloud her book The Bench.
Filmed for Brightly Storytime, the former actress introduced herself as Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.
She then read her popular kids’ book while showing children the illustrations.
However, her use of the title at the beginning of the clip has divided opinion.
“Hi and welcome to Brightly Storytime,” Meghan said in the clip. “I am Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and today I am going to read you my book called The Bench.
“This is illustrated by Christian Robinson and I asked him to do something special for me and use watercolors, which isn’t the normal medium he works with but he did it to make this extra special.”
“I hope you love the pictures as much as you love the words,” she continued.
“I wrote this as a poem for my husband and our son, Archie and then turned it into a book so you can enjoy it too.”
One person took to Twitter with an article about Meghan’s reading and wrote: “And of course she introduces herself as the duchess of sussex. She won’t let the title go will she?”
Another wrote: “And introduces herself as Meghan the Duchess of Sussex. Like kids have a clue who she is…Wow.”
A third said: “Have either Catherine or Sophie ever done that? Like, Hey, I’m Catherine/Sophie, The Duchess of Cambridge/Countess of Wessex?”
But fans also thought it just made sense for Meghan to introduce herself with the royal title.
One person said: “Not being working members doesn’t mean they aren’t royal.”
Another wrote: “It’s literally their name.”
A third added: “They are still very much royals, Harry is still a prince by blood and Meghan a princess and duchess by marriage.”
Many people also praised the reading, with one saying: “She did such a wonderful job with the reading. Relaxing tone and perfect pace and balance.”
