Melania Trump said she was excited to serve as the first lady of the United States for six more years as she asked the incumbent president to come on stage at the first rally of Trump’s re-election bid.
The crowd cheered when the first couple took the stage at the Orlando Amway Center on Tuesday evening to tune ‘God Bless the U.S.A.’
Melania, who was dressed in a yellow Ralph Lauren jumpsuit, said in her first campaign appearance for the next presidential election that serving as the first lady was an honor for her.
‘It has been my honor to serve as first lady of this incredible country for the past two years. And I’m excited to do it for six more,’ she said as the crowd shouted ‘USA, USA, USA.’
Although Melania kept her address very brief, she expressed how proud she was of the Trump administration.
‘I’m proud of all that my husband, this administration and our entire family have done on behalf of the American people in such a short time,’ Melania said.
‘He truly loves this country and will continue to work on your behalf as long as he can. All of us will.’
The bright yellow jumpsuit made Melania stand out in the 20,000-seat arena.
‘Thank you-all again for being here tonight and now, I want to introduce my husband, the president of the United States, Donald J. Trump,’ the first lady said.
When Trump hit the stage, he exchanged a hug and kisses with Melania before starting his address.
After thanking his wife in the speech, Trump started talking about a complaint he is often heard saying – Hillary’s use of a private email server.
‘But, can you imagine if I got a subpoena, think of this, if I got a subpoena for emails, if I deleted one email like a love note to Melania, It’s the electric chair for Trump,’ the president said as the audience burst out laughing.
Trump also paid tribute to Melania’s Be Best campaign, thanking, in particular, the first lady’s work to combat opioid addiction.
‘We are confronting the opioid and drug addiction,’ he said.
‘And you know what’s happening. Drug addiction is the scourge of our country and many other countries. And we have made so much progress. So much progress.
‘Opioid down 17, 18, 19 and 21 per cent in some places. And I want to thank our first lady for having worked so hard on that. Thank you.’
He also showed gratitude to his family, who were all there beside the stage to support him at this important moment.
‘I am profoundly thankful to my family. I have a great family,’ he said, before naming his wife and children: ‘Melania, Don, Ivanka, Eric, Tiffany, Barron, Lara, Jared.’
He then mentioned his brothers and sisters: ‘Robert, Mary Ann, Elizabeth and my late brother Fred Jr.’
All of President Trump’s children – Ivanka, Eric, Donald Jr., Tiffany, and Barron – were present at what seemed to be a family affair on Tuesday evening in Orlando.
Eric and Donald Jr. even warmed up the audience before Trump and Melania appeared before the crowd. And unlike the first lady, both of them threw punches at their political rivals.
Donald Trump Jr. mocked Joe Biden, saying the former vice president has been making election speeches to ‘four-person crowds.’
‘He gets up on the stump. It’s so stupid,’ he said.
Eric Trump highlighted his family’s love for the country, saying: ‘He [President Trump] loves this country and we, as a family, love this country.
‘We’re going to fight like h***. Our family is going to fight like h*** for this country. And we will never stop fighting, and we will never stop winning.’
