First lady Melania Trump received the White House Christmas tree on Monday.
Wearing a black and white coat, black boots, and black gloves, Melania waved, smiled, and said ‘Merry Christmas’ before she returned inside.
The military band played festive songs ‘Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,’ ‘O Come, All Ye Faithful, and ‘O Christmas Tree,’ as Mrs. Trump came out to greet the carriage with the 2020 Christmas tree on the North Portico.
The first lady, 50, beamed for photographs with the tree farmers who removed their masks to pose for pictures before saying ‘Merry Christmas’ to the press before returning inside.
This year’s Christmas tree from Dan and Bryan Trees in West Virginia is 18 and a half feet tall.
The selection of the tree is usually a competitive process supervised by the National Christmas Tree Association.
The NCTA said in a statement: “The Taylors have supplied Christmas trees to decorate the White House for a number of years, except of course, the Blue Room tree which comes from NCTA’s Grand Champion Grower.”
The welcoming of the tree marks the start of annual holiday festivities in the White House.
The tree will be decorated as one of the first lady’s final duties before she and President Donald Trump leave the White House on January 20.
A spokesperson for Melania previously told PEOPLE magazine that she was “looking forward to once again opening the People’s House for Christmas.”
Her spokeswoman said: “It is an annual tradition that she has enjoyed designing since June. The decor will be showcased and celebrated across the country in December.”
Speaking about her 2018 décor, Melania said: “I think they look fantastic. I hope everybody will come over and visit it. In real life, they look even more beautiful. You are all welcome to visit the White House, the people’s house.
