Manners and unwritten rules are what helps to keep the society and people in order.
Not everyone, however, is willing to follow these morals. From women who occupy free seats with their handbags to men who spread their legs over the neighboring seats, manners are something that individual either has or doesn’t – regardless of their gender.
Since leg spreading, also commonly known as manspreading, became such a persistent issue in the modern society, the city of Madrid decided to ban it. While maxing out your comfort at home is perfectly fine, doing so in tight public spaces, such as on the subway, is far from polite.
The purpose of the leg spreading ban is to “remind transport users to maintain civic responsibility and respect the personal space of everyone on board.”
One woman who got tired of men taking over her personal space decided to take matters into her own hands (ermm, legs). Her goal is to teach men how to respect others’ private space. Soon after the beginning of her quest, she was also backed up by a feminist (oops, meant to say female psychologist) who expressed that manspreading is a sign of men trying to oppress and dominate women.
Here is what the woman decided to do:
She has also explained her actions with words:
Soon after her story went viral, other commenters backed her up.
This guy, however, wasn’t convinced by her actions, and he has a good point!
After a while, more people felt the need to share their opinions about the woman and about the habits of spreading legs.
Surely, leg spreading isn’t too bad as long as you are aware of others and avoid entering their personal space.
Do you think that men who spread their legs widely are trying to show off or are they simply trying to relax and enjoy the moment?
