Being a parent is the best feeling one can get in life but raising kids is no less than a roller coaster ride.
They start off by feeding all the signals they get from the world. Boys, on the one hand, are told that they are the rulers of the world. And girls, on the other hand, are told that they are world’s princess and their appearance is more important than their mind.
Our kids will become what we have taught them. As a parent, our job is to teach our children about respect and let them know that the strength resides in mutuality.
However, for many, they believe that Disney has changed the course of the world about the way it thinks. In every Disney story, there is a princess who needs to be rescued by a prince or someone. But, in the recent years, Disney has shifted their stories a little bit to make it a subject of women empowerment.
With the likes of Frozen and Moana and Women from another universe like Marvel’s Black Widow, Princess Leia from Star Wars, and more, these women have surely made a statement. They are telling the world that women are not a piece of gold or a trophy, they can do things like the men.
But, again, as critiques, people still believe that Disney is out to make money and fortune. The moral moves it displays via its movies and cartoons is nothing but a marketing strategy.
This is the reason why Emma Palmer from London was so furious when she saw t-shirts marketed for little girls at a Disney store read – ‘Shoes speak louder than words.’
She said that it was an embarrassing t-shirt which was sending an inappropriate message to all the little girls out there. It is a known fact that the words you speak and the contents of your mind are way more important as it describes who you are and your shoes have nothing to with it.
However, she faced a backlash from the internet, but she stayed to her point. She said that the message which said women should be more concerned about their shoes rather than their voice is actually very dangerous, it will only make the women race feel dumb.
Interior designer by profession, she is the mother of a 3-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son. She thrashed the critiques by saying that the messages you give to your daughters today will define their future when they are out fighting for their rights.
The messages should be about their intelligence, what they think and what they have to say. Women must not rely on their beauty every time. It is true that it is fun to change your style once in a while, wearing makeup and all that, but using beauty as an alternative to the brain is not a smart move.
Well, not everyone is supporting Emma on her outrage over some cute little t-shirt. They think that the t-shirts are cute and funny and do not possess any intentions to take away the integrity of the women.
