A mysterious metal monolith has been discovered in the middle of the desert by Utah officials.
As the officials at the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources revealed, a large metal monolith up to 12-foot-tall has been spotted in the desert as their team surveyed the area with a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter.
After taking a closer look at the shiny object, the officials realized that it wasn’t simply dropped from the sky because it was neatly wedged inside the ground.
Since the object closely resembles the monolith seen in 2001: A Space Odyssey, the officials have suggested it could have been built and installed by an artist or a fan of the popular movie.
While the exact location of the bizarre object hasn’t been revealed, the authorities explained that it is positioned inside a remote rock cove.
“One of the biologists is the one who spotted it and we just happened to fly directly over the top of it. He was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, turn around, turn around!’ And I was like, ‘what?’ And he’s like, ‘There’s this thing back there – we’ve got to go look at it!’” pilot Bret Hutchings recalled in an interview with KSL-TV.
As the pilot added, the crew initially suspected that NASA was behind the mysterious object.
“We were thinking, ‘Is this something NASA stuck up there or something? Are they bouncing satellites off it?’” Hutchings added.
“We were kind of joking around that if one of us suddenly disappears, then the rest of us make a run for it.”
