Michael Angelis, Long-Term Narrator Of Classic Children’s Show Thomas & Friends, Died At His Home


The longtime narrator of Thomas the Tank Engine series Thomas & Friends passed away at his home at the age of 68.

After taking the role from Ringo Starr of The Beatles, Michael Angelis narrated the classic children’s show from 1991 to 2012.

Michael worked on the popular show from its third to 16th series for the United Kingdom. He also worked for six American episodes, other commercials, and the first six The Railway Stories CDs.

While his voice became synonymous with the UK’s version, the US edition was narrated by actors like Alec Baldwin.

Michael starred in many comedies after he graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland, appearing in The Liver Birds from 1975 to 1978.

The narrator also portrayed the villain Mickey Startup in the TV adaptation of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet in its third installment.

Fans of Thomas & Friends were left heartbroken by the saddening news and took to social media to pay tribute.

One fan wrote: “It breaks my heart to hear that the legendary Michael Angelis has passed away. However his legacy will live on within the hearts of many Thomas fans. He shaped so many peoples childhoods and gave people so many laughs. Godspeed Michael. Rest In Peace.”

Another said: “Oh Michael… I am devastated to hear of your passing. You gave me so many priceless memories of Thomas and his friends. Thank you for everything..”

A third added: “Michael Angelis WAS Thomas for me as I was growing up -a charismatic actor with a fantastic voice. Excellent turns on Minder and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet as well. Thank you for everything Michael, and sleep well.
