75-year-old actor and producer Michael Douglas has campaigned for the Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg shortly after it came to light that his late father, Kirk Douglas, has bestowed his entire fortune to charities.
Mr. Douglas has voiced his support for the 78-year-old former Mayor of New York City by dubbing him “one of the best candidates we’ve had running for office in 30 to 40 years.”
“This is really, truly one of the best candidates we’ve had running for office in 30 to 40 years,” the Wall Street star said as he addressed the crowd in the candidate’s hometown, Quincy, Massachusetts.
While the speech appeared to be filled with praise for Bloomberg, Douglas did acknowledge the presidential candidate’s much-scoffed first Democratic debate.
“I mean he may not win the contest in stand up comedian but you can’t be everything to everybody. So, I just admire this guy so much. I am really happy to be out here,” Douglas said.
During his speech, the actor also applauded Bloomberg for his gun control efforts and thanked the candidate’s campaign office “for being her today, for supporting Mike.”
“Thank you so much for being here today, for supporting Mike. Let’s go see what happens and let’s get this done,” Douglas said.
Earlier this month, Douglas has also claimed that his legendary father Kirk Douglas has voiced his support for Bloomberg shortly before passing away.
“I leaned over close to him, and he said, ‘Mike can get it done,’” Douglas said of one of his final conversations with his father Kirk.
