Michael Douglas revealed that his dad begged him not to throw him a big party for his 103rd birthday.
Kirk Douglas has received lavish parties on his every birthday but this year he does not want one.
Michael, 75, made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he revealed that his father is not interested in big parties anymore.
“Well, it’s like, so 100. Okay, so he was 100. Big birthday, big birthday. The trouble is, when you’re 100, you don’t really want a big birthday,” Douglas explained. “I threw a big party for him, it was great.”
“101. You know, ‘OK, let’s have a nice party.’ ‘Again? I don’t…’ ‘Dad, it’s 101 years old. You have to have a birthday.’ 102…” he continued.
“So he’s begging me, he’s got tears down his eyes. ‘Let’s just have dinner, the family together. Bring the kids,’ ” Michael joked.
Michael shares son Cameron with ex-wife Diandra Luker, and Dylan and Carys with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Cameron recently admitted his life ‘spiraled out of control’ when he got to know that his father Michael was cheating on his mother Diandra.
Cameron recalled when he was sent to boarding school as a young teen, he tried marijuana and ‘felt the pressure lift’ as well as seeing it as a ‘path out of his loneliness.’
He was kicked out of school for his drug addiction.
Michael admitted in the ABC special: ‘My career was first. My career came before my family. My marriage was not great. ‘I should’ve focused more on my family but that’s hard to say when you’re in the midst of a career, when in your own mind you’re stepping out of your father’s shadow, trying to create a life of your own.’
