Michelle Obama has been labeled “insensitive” amid the backlash she received after comparing Trump to the role of a divorced dad and America to a broken family.
The former first lady applied the inappropriate metaphor during her Becoming book tour in London following Trump’s unexpected electoral appeal.
While Michelle’s fans defended her words saying she didn’t mean to sound offensive, people quickly slammed Obama for “stereotyping divorced dads.”
“We [America] come from a broken family, we are a little unsettled. Sometimes you spend the weekend with divorced dad. That feels like fun but then you get sick. That is what America is going through. We are living with divorced dad,” Obama said.
Following the comment, divorced dads quickly took offense to the former first lady’s words and lashed out at her on social media.
“I’m a divorced dad who loves his kids and is every bit of a good parent as a divorced mom. I generally don’t like Trump and did like you, but you’ve shown that you can say just as rude and insensitive comment as Trump,” one person wrote.
“As a divorced dad, I do my best to raise my son into a kind of man of which we all can be proud. Your comments doesn’t help people see that I’m conscientious and competent [enough] to do a good job,” another one said.
One father suggested: “Criticizing divorced parents or single dads is really a low blow,’ said one parent on Twitter.”
“As a divorced dad who gives his all every weekend, I gotta ask… come again?” James Wilkinson wrote.
