Former first lady Michelle Obama posted a heartwarming tribute to the ‘wonderful father and husband’ by sharing their never-before-seen photo.
She took to Instagram and Twitter and shared a photo of them posing with their daughters, Sasha and Malia.
The 57-year-old also praised former President Barack Obama for being such a ‘loving, present father’ to their children, adding that his role as a parent ‘tops… all of his accomplishments.’
“Of all of your accomplishments, I know that being a present, loving father to our girls tops them all,” she wrote.
“Thank you for never letting the weight of the world get in the way of being a wonderful husband and father. Happy 60th birthday, @BarackObama!”
Mrs. Obama’s public birthday tributes have become a ritual over the past years.
But this comes after they faced backlash over their plans to host a 500-person soiree at their home to celebrate Obama’s birthday.
A spokesperson for the couple announced that they had canceled the event. The Obamas will celebrate the former president’s milestone birthday with a more low-key party with family and closest friends at their 7,000-square-foot mansion.
“This outdoor event was planned months ago in accordance with all public health guidelines and with COVID safeguards in place,” spokeswoman Hannah Hankins said in a statement.
“Due to the new spread of the Delta variant over the past week, the President and Mrs. Obama have decided to significantly scale back the event to include only family and close friends,” she continued.
“President Obama is appreciative of others sending their birthday wishes from afar and looks forward to seeing people soon,” the spokesperson added.
