According to reports, Sir Mick Jagger will undergo heart valve replacement surgery after cancelling the Rolling Stones’ latest tour.
He is set to have a damaged valve replaced during the operation in a New York City hospital this week, according to Drudge Report.
Jagger, who follows a strict diet and exercise regime, is expected to make a complete recovery and be on stage by the summer, sources close to the star said. Heart valve replacement surgery has a 95 per cent success rate.
The 75-year-old icon enjoyed some family time with two-year-old Deveraux, girlfriend Melanie Hamrick and daughter Georgia May on Sunday after cancelling the sell-out North American tour which was due to start on April 20.
He was forced to postpone the nine-week ‘No Filter’ tour across the US and Canada after doctors told him he wasn’t fit to go on stage.
Fans have spent hundreds of million dollars on tickets, were due to watch the band at 17 sell-out venues. The band revealed a day earlier that doctors had advised him not to go on stage, weeks before the tour was due to start on April 20 in Miami.
Page Six additionally reported that Jagger is due to have a stent placed in his heart. “You can be back at work within weeks” after such a procedure, they quoted a source as saying. “But it could be because the health checks are all set into the insurance for the tour, maybe they’re being careful.”
“A big disappointment for everyone,” guitarist Keith Richards tweeted last week following the postponement announcement, “but things need to be taken care of and we will see you soon. Mick, we are always there for you!” Jagger himself said in a statement at the time: “I really hate letting you down like this. I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can.”
