Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is unarguably one of the best flight simulation games to ever be.

The attention to the minutest details makes this game a really great one.

Revealed in 2019 E3, the game delivers the ultimate virtual flying experience “anywhere on the planet.”

Even if you are not a big fan of flying or playing flight simulation games, just thinking about how much effort the developers at Asobo Studios put into this game is really exciting.

So, if you ever make your mind to start playing a flight simulation game, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 needs to be your first choice.

In a video that surfaced recently, Asobo said they would be adding “all the airports on Earth” to the game. Now that is a hefty lot of work, manually editing the details of 37,000 airports and adding them to the game.

Out of these, 80 of the busiest and most abundantly accessed airports will be given extra attention to detail including the surface conditions of the airfield and the signs and warnings posted on the airports.

Then there’s a “top level category” of airports, featuring the most “iconic” airports on the planet.

These airports will have realistic buildings, terrain, and props, making them look exactly the way they appear in real life.

Sven Mestas, the lead game designer at Asobo, explained the methodology they are adopting to create realistic simulations of airports.

He said that his team is using topographical data and textures from Bing Maps, and are implementing Microsoft Azure cloud technology to make buildings and terrain.

“In order to reach a new level of reality in flight simulation, we needed a new approach,” Sven said.

“That’s why we decided to innovate by editing airports from real satellite pictures. This technique involves editing each airport manually, which means particular attention to detail has been given to every single one of them, to bring them a step closer to reality.”
