According to the reports, the uprising was the third one of its kind in the month of June as troubled migrants seek food, medicine, and better sheltering.

Caught among the group of rioters was also a mother who pleaded with the interviewers for assistance because her 5-year-old was sick and her toddler was forced to sleep on the ground.

“My son has been sick for a lot of days. I have suffered a lot,” the mother wept in Spanish as she was addressing the reporters that assembled to document the conditions at the facility.

“They haven’t given us a bit of food. There is no drinkable water. Help, help me with my son. He is sick. I have two sons, a five-year-old and a 14-month-old … Help me please. My son is dying.”

According to the reports, the mother in this story has been at the detention center for weeks and was stopped by the National Guard when she attempted to leave through the main gate.

The facility in question has been in the center of criticism after dozens of migrants started complaining about the lack of food, medicine, and unsanitary conditions leading to the infestation of rats and roaches.

As the EFE news pointed out, however, the National Institute of Immigration claimed that all migrants are well-provided for after dismissing the uprising as a facility “disturbance.”
