John Thackwray, a South African-born photographer, doesn’t spend much time in his own bedroom.
Because he’s too busy capturing the bedrooms of others!
He is photographing for over 6 years and captured one thousand people’s bedrooms from 55 countries for his photo-series titled My Room Project. It started in Paris, and since then his project has taken him everywhere from Mexico and Russia to Nepal and Japan.
Thackwray takes pictures of bedrooms of people born in the 80’s and 90’s. He wanted to capture and compare the different hopes and aspirations of the millennial. He also interviewed people and talked about various topics including lifestyle, local issues, education, religion, and love. He’s combined a selection of his photographs and interviews for a book that’s available for pre-order on his website.
John told BuzzFeed: “The world is changing so fast, and I feel it’s important to document the lifestyle of my generation, not only at home but across the globe. I hope that through these photos, people will become a little more conscious about the world surrounding us.”
