Over two million pounds of ready-to-eat chicken is being recalled in eight states across the USA after a company announced that the meat could be contaminated by metals.
As Arkansas-based Simmons Prepared Foods claimed, they have issued a recall for almost 2.1 million pounds of chicken meat products.
The products involved in the recall include ready-to-cook chicken breast, chicken leg quarters, chicken wings, and chicken tenderloins.
While the US Department of Agriculture recently confirmed that there haven’t been any “adverse reactions” to the aforementioned products as of this writing, they are being recalled due to the potential metal contamination.
The states affected by the recall include Arkansas, California, Arizona, Georgia, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Oklahoma, whereas the chicken products affected had previously been distributed to various restaurants, schools, and stores.
According to the Food Safety and Inspection Service, the affected products are marked by one of the following establishment numbers: P- 486, P-1949, or P-5837.
In addition, the meat packages being recalled were produced sometime between October 21 and November 4, 2019.
While the Inspection Service didn’t reveal how the meat got contaminated with metals, they marked the matter as “a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
As the authorities warned, products affected by the recall should be returned to the place where they were bought or thrown away.
