It was the year 1928 and Minka Disbrow was having a fun picnic in the woods with one of her best friends.
Suddenly, they were approached by three strange men. In a horrific twist Minka and her friend were separated before Minka was assaulted and raped by one of the monsters.
Thankfully, Minka survived the attack, but she kept it a secret to everyone around her. She was terrified and young. She didn’t know any better. Unfortunately, Minka’s nightmare was not over yet. As she slowly recovered from the attack her body began to go through some changes. Her belly began to slowly grow over the next couple of months. She wasn’t returning back to normal. Something was very wrong.

Minka was so young that she didn’t understand what was happening so she went to her mother and explained the tragic night and her the changes to her body ever since. Her mother had to explain that Minka was pregnant with the baby of the monster who raped her. It was the early 20th century, so abortion simply wasn’t an option. Minka was going to have to birth this baby.
So 9 months after her attack, she delivered the baby secretly in her home. No one outside of her family knew anything about the pregnancy. The newborn was named Betty Jane and was quickly put up for adoption.
Minka, at just 16-years-old, was far too young to be a mother and the baby, though no fault of her own, only brought back the nightmares of that horrific night. But despite that pain, the instant that Minka laid her eyes on Betty, a connection was immediately formed between her and her baby. Minka would never forget about Betty.

She wrote letters to Betty Jane for the next several decades. Betty was always on her mind as she continued to pray and love her. Minka never knew if she would be able to meet her daughter again, but if her daughter was still out there, she was wishing her the best.
Nearly 80 years after Minka delivered Betty Jane in total secrecy, Minka pleaded with God that she may see her daughter once more.
Lord, I’d like to see Betty Jane before I die. I promise I won’t bother her or interrupt her life. I just want to lay eyes on her.

However, Minka wasn’t the only one praying that she would be reunited with her daughter. All the way back in Minka’s home state, a judge was releasing the sealed adoption records of Betty Jane, who was now 77 years old. With the release of these records, Betty would finally know who her birth mother is and be able to finally contact her.
