Just last week, a 22-year-old Fort Hood soldier has passed away after being rammed by a car while directing traffic at the scene of an accident close to the military base.

Spc. Cole Jakob Aton was directing traffic in Killeen, just a few miles from the military installation where he was stationed, when a driver rammed into him with their car.

As of this writing, no charges have been filed against the driver who allegedly didn’t see the soldier as they crossed an Interstate 14 overpass. The case is still being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to the reports, it isn’t clear whether Aton, who served as a missile operator with the 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, was involved in the accident after which he helped direct the traffic or not.
