A vegan animal activist and bikini model who shared videos of a ‘piglet rescue’ on Instagram is now facing a $6,000 fine for allegedly stealing livestock.
28-year-old Lauren McGeachin shared videos on her Instagram page but the clips show piles of lifeless piglets and partially buried pig carcasses while another video shows the model cradling the ‘rescued animals’.
McGeachin appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court for her role in the raid on a piggery.
In another social media post, she says she was ‘interrogated’ about the pigs after cops raided her home.
“We rescued piglets a few months ago and I am now being charged with rescuing them,” McGeachin said. “We were just trying to do the right thing, which in the law is the wrong thing.”
The model’s legal aid lawyer asked for her case to be adjourned until prosecutors show a brief of evidence.
McGeachin recently shared videos and photos of her playing with two piglets at home. She told her followers that the animals had been confiscated and she was scared they would be put down.
“I don’t know how they are or where they are which sucks,” she expressed. “They (also) said I could be facing a $6000 (fine) and a conviction. Just for rescuing piglets that were in a factory farm.”
Three other women were also charged after the theft at the Pittsworth piggery, police said. The 28-year-old model is also charged with entering premises with intent to commit an indictable offense.
