Model Woke Up Paralyzed From the Chest Down After Doctors Told Her That Her Dead Arm Was Due to Anxiety  


One morning, Sonia Vera woke up with a dead arm.

She rushed to the hospital, fearing she was having a heart attack but the doctors sent her home stating that it was due to anxiety. Hours later, she woke up paralyzed from the chest down!

Sonia, 46, who is from Venezuela, but has lived in London since 2017, was working as a model and designer when she woke up with a strange numbness in her arm.

Thinking she is having a heart attack, Sonia rushed to the hospital. But the medical staff told her to go home and take proper rest as she was suffering from anxiety.

Following the medical advice, Sonia went home and had a nap. Five hours later, when she woke up, things turned upside down when she wasn’t able to feel anything from the chest down. She was paralyzed from the chest down!

The former model didn’t even panicked when she woke up like this. She returned to the hospital and trusted that doctors would be able to treat her and she will get normal quickly.

She underwent a series of tests, including two spinal taps, before the doctors found that she was suffering from transverse myelitis, which is a rare neurological disorder that causes inflammation of the spine.

The next six months of Sonia’s life hovered around the hospital and medications. She was given three IVIG transfusions and steroids to reduce the inflammation, including intense physiotherapy.

Despite the traumatic experience she was having, Sonia never lost hope and trusted that she would be able to walk again. She set up a Go Fund Me page after coming to know the positive results of the medical trials for the epidural stimulator in the United States.

Sonia says that her life has changed completely, but she is focused on being positive. She says that she struggles with her daily life activities, like getting around and reaching for things. But she has no complaints about it.

She’s doing great mentally is focused on her recovery. She says having faith is essential.
