A mom is warning people about the dangers of fireworks after her little girl went through the painful experience of having a rocket explode in her face.

Thirty-three-year-old Stephanie Roe, a police officer from Combe Martin in Devon, posted painful images of her toddler to warn parents to be careful with fireworks on bonfire night.

Roe’s daughter Maisie, who’s now seven years old, was just four when she was hit with a firework. The accident left her seriously injured and gave her scars that might not go her entire life.

Roe had a fireworks display at her home in 2016 when a rocket went off the wrong way.

The rocket that she had bought from a local shop took off horizontally instead of going vertical and got entangled in Maisie’s scarf. It exploded there, leaving little Maisie with life-long scars.

Roe said: “Fireworks are explosives and can be extremely dangerous and I still don’t believe they should be readily available to the general public.”

Maisie was immediately given first aid before she was shifted to Bristol Hospital for treatment of the severe burns she got from the rocket going off in her face.

The doctors suggest that the majority of her burns will have to get skin grafting to be fully treated.

Roe says it’s better to go to fireworks displays organized by professionals instead of arranging a display at home as it can be life-threateningly dangerous.

She said: “There are amazing professional displays all over the country, please consider going to one of those as opposed to fireworks in the garden this year.

“As a mother who had to watch her tiny child endure so much pain and who’s little body is scarred for life, I can hand on heart say it is never worth the risk.”

Thankfully, the permanent scarring is not holding Maisie back and she has remarkably recovered from the injuries.

Roe said: “We are amazed by how much love has been shown to our little girl.

“She continues to improve day by day and is most certainly back to the gorgeous firecracker she was before in every way short of physically.”
