A mother came up with a brilliant way of stopping her toddler from crying when she leaves the room by using a cardboard of herself to trick the child into thinking she is still watching him.
This may sound like a weird idea but it works like a charm!
Japanese mother Fuki Sato wanted to stop her child whenever she leaves the room to do other household chores, and the cardboard trick seems to be the best solution.
Her husband posted two pictures on Twitter and it quickly went viral. “It’s hard because my one-year-old child cries as mom disappears,” he wrote.
“As a countermeasure, I experimented with what would happen if I set up a ”life-sized panel mother”. As a result, it is not noticed for about 20 minutes. This panel may be useful occasionally…”
Their son can be seen playing alone in his playpen while a cardboard cut-out stood in the kitchen as if watching over him.
In another photo, the cardboard was crouching down as if the mother was ready to play with the child.
The cardboards are slightly out of the child’s reach so he wouldn’t discover the trick.
And because many parents would worry, the father mentioned right away that the child was never left completely alone.
He was always around and the mother would always check on him every 20 minutes or so.
The cardboard allows the parents to continue with household chores or other things needed to be done.
One internet user commented: “Ha ha, brilliant! I wish I had one when my kids where younger.”
Another wrote: “… better hope it never falls over – the child will be traumatised seeing his mother lying there not moving :)”
A third added: “If it works and keeps the little boy happy then why not.”
