A mother-to-be has gotten several warnings about naming her child after a character in a television show, “Supernatural”.
The show shines light on demon hunters who are siblings, Sam and Dean Winchester, who spend their life hunting monsters. There are more characters in the series that the mother could choose a name from in order to name her own child, and that includes the main protagonists.
Which character did she choose? One of the less common ones, she decides to name her son Lucifer, which is the devil, and the character is played by actor Mark Pellegrino. Her family has warned her and are not surprised at her choice, turning to Reddit to ask for advice on what to do.
The post goes as follows: “My 25-year-old sister is eight months pregnant with a baby boy.point 193 | The whole family is super excited for her and we can’t wait to meet her son.point 260 |
her boyfriend freaked out and left when she told him, so she’s on her own and has come to our other siblings for baby name suggestions and stuff.point 124 | It’s turned into a big event between us since she’s the first sibling to have a kid and we’ve all given her an ungodly large amount of name suggestions, so she decided to do a video call with us to announce it.point 311 | 1
“She picked Lucifer. The whole call was silent for like a full minute and then one of my brothers asked her if that was a joke and she got mad and left the call. I texted her after and apologized for how we all took it but said maybe she should consider how a name like that would affect her son’s life.”
The family of the mother-to-be were also huge fans of Supernatural, so she didn’t understand why they were angry at her name choice.point 228 |
They haven’t spoken to her since.point 34 | Reddit users commented their opinion, which most agreed that the name was a terrible choice to make.point 118 | A user writes, “Wanting to protect your nephew from a lifetime of bullying is a good [aunt] move.point 204 |
Sorry, your sister wants to name her kid after the devil.point 47 | ”point 54 | 1
Another user makes a point, stating that “she couldn’t have chosen Dean? Sam? Hell, Castiel would’ve been a better choice.” They listed other names that weren’t as out there and subtle so that their child would not get bullied over their name.
