Agatha Christie said,
“A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.”
A tragedy happened but nobody was surprised what Chelsey Russell chose to do for her son. It was obvious that she would. For Russell, her children were everything. Unfortunately, her love for them cost her life.

Russell was having a vacation with her brother and her two kids on Lake Powell in Utah. Russell saw that her toddler son had fallen overboard. Russell and her son were not wearing a life jacket at the moment.
She didn’t hesitate for a second to dive in and save him.
After her brother saw her in the lake and reached her, he found her son on her chest. She was floating with her son but she was unconscious.
Russell passed away even after CPR was conducted for 30 minutes. She didn’t drown but she was suffering from a rare cardiac arrhythmia, a heart condition she had since her childhood.

After her death, her family, friends, and community remember the 35-year-old mother, lawyer, and athlete. They will always remember her as a courageous, compassionate, and brave woman who sacrificed her life for her son.
People who loved her so much come forward to honor her legacy and share her story.
“She was unbelievably close to her mother and her brother,” Quinn Washington, her childhood friend said. “She was devastated when her father died, and she became the glue that kept the family together. It’s been one hit after another.”
