A mom was horrified as she took a look at her son’s homework.
The mom could not fathom how they are making her son learn such a thing in public school. Apparently, the school teacher was forcing Islamic teachings down the throats of the school students, especially since reports are coming in across the country of schools denying students the right to practice their Christian beliefs.
The mother, Tara Cali posted a picture of the note she wrote in her son’s homework book on her Facebook page. The post has already sparked a widespread debate on the internet about what is appropriate or not to teach kids in school when it comes to religion.
The California mom felt like she was a nightmare as she found out that her seventh-grade son is being force fed by her teacher on a lesson in Islamic prayer and beliefs. The debate sparked by the post has been raging on for a while now about who was right between the California mom and the school system.
Since tensions escalated in the country with the bans on passengers aboard flights from perceived core Islamic nations, many reports like this have pervaded the internet space.
Interesting and sometimes disgusting debates have ensued from all sectors to address the clear fear of Islam and its believers in the country.A country like the US separated across religious lines would be a dangerous situation in the 21st century, not only to the country but to the nations watching earnestly at actions being taken.

This mom, Tara couldn’t believe that her kid is being taught Islam in the school, especially when a portrait of Jesus was not at all allowed on the wall of the school.
The little boy was not only being thought the Muslim prayer. He was given a scan code as an assignment that would allow him to hear prayer calls from a mosque in Istanbul. Tara considered this act ‘indoctrination into a religion’.
Though the teacher only asked that the son listens to some Muslim prayers, his mom wrote a scathing note back to the teacher in response.
She wrote, “My son WILL not in anyway be a part of this. This teaching material is bad for him. He will NOT take part in it. Call our lawyer if you have a problem with my decision.”

She was so enraged by the teacher’s actions and at the school that she had to post a picture of the homework given to her son on Facebook. She refused to let her son learn about Islam ways and she defended her decision with several bible verses to support her position as a Christian mom.
All schools possess the right to teach the students about the many religions in the world, but they cannot “force particular religious beliefs” on their students. The various organizations gave their idea about what a school’s focus should be in religious studies. The American Civil Liberties Union gave its verdict that “The approach of education to religion is academic, not devotional.”
They continued that schools can only strive to raise students awareness and interest in all the religions, but they do not have the right or power to force a religion down the students’ throat.
The school and the education system, in general, must make draw a line between the practice and the study of religions. Study about religion can be sponsored in schools, even by organizations practice of any religion whatsoever.

Also, the school must not single any religion out for study or any other academic purposes, except for tertiary education.
They may teach students about all religions, but must not promote or pour scorn on any religion.”
Some comments by people online about the issue are given below:
-“Parents like this are dumb and totally ignorant, your kids need to know about this religion so they do not become as CLUELESS AS YOU!”
-“The mother has a right to stop her kid from learning about any religion she doesn’t want her son to know about”.
ADVERTISEMENT -“She should understand that learning about this religion will not make her kid turn to Islam, the teachers are doing their jobs to keep your kids informed, the best you could do is point him in the right direction on what to accept and what not”.

As readers, do you think teachers around the world are favoring teaching Islam over other religions? Or it is just a normal class lesson and school curriculum?
Also, Do you think Tara is right for standing her ground and following her religious belief or that the school was right for teaching the boy from an early age about the religions in the world?
