A woman’s wedding day is one of the most important days of her life.
It is a wow moment. Yeah wedding planning is fun! From choosing the cake, the flowers, the decorations and the venue to the dress, many special memories are created. People might forget everything else at a wedding, but one thing is for sure – they can never forget a bride’s wedding dress.
So it is best to get it right. Every girl dreams of getting married one day and wear the most beautiful and outstanding wedding gown. But that is not the easiest thing to do since there are many options to choose from.

On the other hand, many young girls fantasize about wearing their mother’s wedding dress. However, this option requires a lot of work too, involving appropriate adjustments to fit the current styles and trends. It’s also extremely emotional since such a gown has many precious memories attached to it.
Many mothers, too, hope to share the special moments of wedding planning with their daughters someday.
They save their dress for years in hopes that their daughter might one day walk down the aisle with their dress as the “something borrowed.” This is the dream that Tennessee native Shannon McNamara had for decades.
When her daughter Caroline got engaged, Shannon happily went searching for the wedding dress she herself wore decades ago on her wedding day. Both mother and daughter could hardly wait to resurrect the 30-year-old dress and alter it to be Caroline’s dream dress.Caroline’s mother thought it would be so wonderful if her daughter wore the dress on her own special day too.
But the search for the stored-away heirloom was not as easy as Shannon had thought.
When she finally opened the box that had been sitting under her bed for years, she made a shocking realization and went into a panic.
She could not recognize the gown that she found. This was not her priceless dress. Her gown had been switched with someone else’s.But how did she end up with another person’s dress? The frantic mother took to social media, determined to unravel the mystery of her missing dress.
Amazingly within no time, the story of the wedding dress mix-up went viral. In a space of just two hours, she got promising news.Turns out there was an unlikely mix-up at the dry cleaners thirty years ago.
Seriously! It so happened that at the time Shannon took her dress to the dry cleaner, another woman also brought hers too.Unfortunately, without realizing it both ladies ended up with each other’s dress.
Georgia native, Kim Jones had Shannon’s dress, and Shannon had hers. Kim had been searching four solid years for her dress, but now the two were able to happily meet up, willingly exchange dresses, and even develop a friendship.[rsnippet id=”5″ name=”DFP/34009881/Article_2″]
After soaking up the joy of having the sacred gown again, there was work to be done to transform Shannon’s dress into a modern masterpiece for her beloved daughter’s wedding. She didn’t have to look far to accomplish this dream of redesigning this prized heirloom. The story had attracted the attention of the Rachael Ray show. Rachael Ray decided to have Shannon and Caroline onto her show, but the reason was twofold.
Not only did Rachael want to display both gowns involved in the big mix-up, but she also wanted to help Caroline update the vintage piece into the dress of Caroline’s dreams. Rachael’s talented stylist team worked closely with Caroline to transform the outdated parts of the dress while preserving the vintage elements that Caroline loved so much.
Shannon was so anxious to see Caroline walk out on stage wearing her beloved dress. But what Shannon was about to see would leave her speechless. With her new friend Kim watching by her side, this proud mom lost it when her daughter walked out in the transformed wedding dress. “It’s beautiful,” the proud mother said.
Instantly, she was trying to hold back the tears that eventually flowed down her face. “It’s stunning,” Shannon said, at a loss for words. They took off the outdated puffy sleeves and 80’s embroidery and exchanged them for a sleeveless look, clean lace, and even pockets.

“It’s so her… it looks so much more like her. It’s beautiful,” the proud mother repeatedly said. Shannon’s dream came true as she got to pass on a beautiful memory of her special day to her daughter. Three decades later, this symbolic wedding dress will once again create a special memory, but this time for Caroline as she walks down the aisle. Wondering where the comments are?
