Knowing that your kids are hurt but not being able to do anything about it is one of the worst pains a parent can go through.
Making up their injuries on purpose, however, is an entirely different story.
Kaylene Bowen, a 34-year-old mother, has claimed that something was wrong with her son, Christopher Bowen, ever since he was 2 years old. At first, she was mostly complaining about his fatigue and muscle weakness.
As years passed by, the mother kept coming up with more severe illnesses that Christopher was supposedly suffering from. These included cancer, genetic disorders, and more. She took him to the hospital for 323 times and made him undergo 13 surgeries. These unnecessary actions began taking their toll on the young boy.
On two instances, Christopher ended up in intensive care because of a blood infection. He’s also been using a wheelchair and was frequently on a feeding tube. At one point, Kaylene even tried to get her son on a lung transplant list. Furthermore, when the boy was merely 5 years old, she signed a “Do Not Resuscitate” order.
Christopher’s father, Ryan Crawford, explained that he tried alerting the authorities, but they would never listen to him.point 214 |
He was also turned down by courts who, without acknowledging actual medical data, sided with Kaylene.point 86 | “It was always the same story: Christopher is dying.point 132 | The father doesn’t need to be around because he doesn’t know how to take care of him.point 205 |
Every time I went to court, they made me feel like I was the worst human ever,” Ryan emotionally reported.point 89 | 1
After discovering that Christopher didn’t have any of the symptoms, or yet alone cancer and seizures, as his mom claimed, the hospital alerted the child protective services. “I am very concerned that mother has moved from exaggerating symptoms to inducing symptoms,” Dr. Suzanne Dakil wrote in the CPS petition for removal.
Kaylene was finally charged with injury to a child and arrested. While she remains in jail, the boy was handed over into foster care.
Christopher’s father is glad that his child is free of his crazy mother, but he continues fighting to regain custody of the child. “It’s horrible for my son, or any kid because obviously my son is not the only one that has had to go through this type of torture. The system has to be exposed – all the weaknesses that are in the system – because the kids don’t deserve that,” Ryan said.
Since Christopher was taken off the life support systems, he is slowly recovering. He is now perfectly capable of eating on his own which is already a great sign of progress.
